There are some years when the weather really throws you for a loop and keeps you guessing. This is definitely one of those years! It started out as a slow but normal spring. Gradually getting warmer. We planted some things in our garden, including our watermelon.
Without warning, meaning it wasn't even in the forecast, we had a hard freeze and lost all 28 of our watermelon plants. Luckily I had some leftover plants in the greenhouse but I was a little wary about putting them out. The month of May began nice and sunny but right towards the middle of the month, the rains started. It rained and rained and rained some more.
Rain can be beautiful but it makes it very hard to plant your garden or mow your lawn that by now has turned into a jungle.
Two solid weeks of rain.
Then the sun decided to show her face! It began to warm up and the promise of a possible summer was there! We got the remainder of the garden planted. Randomly the wind would blow. There was a tornado. We don't get tornado's in south east Idaho.
Then, out of nowhere, below freezing temperatures were in the forecast. It's June people! We did our best to cover our plants but in spite of our efforts, some plants decided it was not worth the effort. It has been a real struggle to get anything to grow so far this year. I wish it could just be a simple process but sometimes, the weather likes to throw you for a loop!
