Watermelon for Sale!

The day we had talked about and actually planned since we moved in three years ago, is here! We set up and had our own roadside watermelon stand.

The kids also made and sold watermelon themed cupcakes, fresh garden kale, and watermelon-limeade slushie. It was a huge success and we sold out both times we set up.

There is such a huge difference between a store bought melon and a garden fresh, perfectly ripe, juice dripping, sweet watermelon. It has made us so excited to share this with other people. We have been able to take something that is very difficult to grow in this area and make it work and we have had some amazingly sweet rewards. This was a particularly hard spring and early summer and we lost a lot of plants to frost. We presevered and were grateful to get the harvest that we did. It wasn't as simple a process as we would have hoped for but we did learn a lot and know what changes to make for an even better yer next year!
