This past school year we have been studying... Shakespeare! We've learned about his life, discussed many of his different plays, memorized famous lines of his, acted out a portion of one of his plays, and finished off the year by attending "Taming of the Shrew." Something that was pretty exciting from the very first play we studied, Midsummer Night's Dream, was there is a character that turns into a donkey! It has been so much fun and in honor of the great Shakespeare, we decided to name all of our babies this year after some of his characters (how did he come up with so many names?!).
The first is Hal, a character from Henry the Fourth.
Next comes Rosalind (or Rozzie as we call her) from As You Like It.
We welcomed Portia (The Merchant of Venice) and Celia (As You Like It) on the same cold and windy day.
We had a couple of baby goats thrown in the mix but we kept with the Shakespeare theme. Bianca (Taming of the Shrew) and Beatrice (Much Ado About Nothing) sounded just right.
We are still waiting on one more goat to deliver, which at this point is looking very ginormous, and two more donkeys; our first time mama, Ella, who is due any day, and Favorite who is due in August.
We are also due to have our own baby boy this week (but I don't think we will give him a Shakespeare name)! It is an exciting spring for our farm and family and we are grateful for the simple pleasures that come with the arrival of new babies!
